No opening acts for Jesus

Friday Reflection - 4/13/12

I’ve noticed at times with some televangelists, that they have opening acts. They have people who come out first, and get people fired up and “ready for the message.” Singers, performers, etc. Can you imagine Jesus’ disciples doing that?

Remember, the people who have gathered for worship are there should be there to offer a sacrifice to God. They are not gathered to entertain visitors. They have not gathered to entertain themselves. They are not putting on a show so men can “ooh” and “aah” over the performance, or get a certain emotional feeling.

The apostles ran into several money-making acts in the early days of Christianity, and ALL of them were rebuked sharply. They didn’t want their worship, and their discipleship, to be associated with that type of foolishness.

Should it be any different today?
